چکیده

In order to measure the large density-gradient fields of fluids such as underwater shock waves, we employed a fast Fourier demodulation called Fast Checkerboard Demodulation (FCD) method in Background Oriented Schlieren (BOS) technique. BOS is simple image-based measurement technique that detects apparent displacement (local distortion) background image caused by density gradient fluid front background. The cross-correlation particle velocimetry (PIV) method, which commonly for detecting displacement, uses random-dot background, whereas FCD periodic pattern (e.g., checkerboard pattern, lattice grid (grid scale)) detect phase change space. this study, measured proportional fluid, an wave using and PIV. results showed can up 2.5 times larger than PIV measure. Furthermore, systematically investigated limit FCD-BOS changing several parameters patterns, size. Also, explored related space understand limitations. It worth noting with scale) accurately custom-made indicating be setup commercially available (inexpensive) pattern.

Density measurements using the Background Oriented Schlieren technique

This paper describes the implementation of a novel technique called Background Oriented Schlieren that can produce quantitative visualization of density in a flow. This technique uses only a digital still camera, a structured background, and inverse tomographic algorithms which can extract two-dimensional slices from a three-dimensional flow. This has been applied to obtain the density field fo...

Optical-flow-based background-oriented schlieren technique for measuring a laser-induced underwater shock wave

The background-oriented schlieren (BOS) technique with the physicsbased optical flow method (OF-BOS) is developed for measuring the pressure field of a laser-induced underwater shock wave. Compared to BOS with the conventional cross-correlation method in PIV (called PIV-BOS), by using the OF-BOS, the displacement field generated by the small density gradient in water can be obtained at the spat...

Background-oriented schlieren imaging and tomography for rapid measurement of FUS pressure fields: initial results

Background/introduction FUS pressure field mapping is important for dosimetry, quality assurance, and other uses. Hydrophone measurements are the current standard, and are accurate but costly and slow. As a simple low-cost alternative, background-oriented schlieren (BOS) imaging of ultrasound fields has been proposed.[1] In that technique, a predetermined image (usually a grid of lines or a ran...

Assessment and application of quantitative schlieren methods: Calibrated color schlieren and background oriented schlieren

Two quantitative schlieren methods are assessed and compared: calibrated color schlieren (CCS) and background oriented schlieren (BOS). Both methods are capable of measuring the light deflection angle in two spatial directions, and hence the projected density gradient vector field. Spatial integration using the conjugate gradient method returns the projected density field. To assess the perform...

Non-Intrusive measurement of a density field using the Background Oriented Schlieren(BOS) method

A method is described for measuring the density distribution in an inhomogeneous medium. This method is based upon the classical Schlieren technique, known as Background Oriented Schlieren (BOS) method. The method measures the density dependence of the refractivity through the detection of the deflecting angle of a number of light beams passing through the space to be measured. The results of s...
